At 6:30 pm April 26, in the Chatham High School auditorium, the Chatham High School Performing Arts Club presents a special evening of folk, jazz and classical music featuring the Chatham High School Celtic Music Ensemble, the Town Cove Chamber Players, the Bart Weisman Klezmer Swing Group, and the Matt Brown Jazz Group. Refreshments will be available at intermission. Admission Cost ~ $10 adults and $5 students
The performers:
The Bart Weisman Klezmer Swing Group has performed Klezmer and Swing music for private events and at concerts across Cape Cod, opened for the Boston Pops, and appeared with the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra. The group has been receiving favorable notices for its performances across the Cape: “It's one thing to have the "chops"; it's another to have embraced the joy, the melancholy and good humor of this infectious music. – The Cape Cod Times “Klezmer music grew from the musical traditions of Eastern European Ashkenazi Jews, mingled with those of the Sephardic groups of Iberia, Africa and the Middle East and evolved and spread along the same geographical routes as the Yiddish language. Those bittersweet chords echo the darker moments of these peoples’ journeys. That bright clarinet resonates with the hope that carried them through...” -- The Provincetown Banner
The Matt Brown Jazz Duo has performed regularly in Chatham for two years at Del Mar Bistro and is now appearing Saturdays at Campari’s Bistro, now 323 North. They’ll be joined by members of Bart Weisman’s group for this special performance.
The Town Cove Chamber Players features local classical musicians who have performed widely throughout the area, most recently at Wellfleet Preservation Hall, and will be presenting several pieces by French composers for this performance.
The Chatham High School Celtic Music Ensemble consists of student performers on mandolin, fiddle and pennywhistle, among other traditional instruments, together with faculty members. They perform jigs and other traditional Irish tunes and Celtic-flavored film music.
